Topic: Traffic LOD and textures at a distance for X life traffic

Hello all,

I hope someone can help me out.
I bought the deluxe version of this great program which makes things more enjoyable. I think X Plane, 10 years after FSX released really did a poor job for AI. This makes it better.

I have one issue though that maybe someone can help me with. It has to do with the LOD and the textures at a distance. If I am within probably 200 meters from an AI plane then all is well. Anywhere further than that AI aircraft appear with low poly, missing wheels or parts to the point that in some cases if I am trying to watch the activity from the tower or runway some AI appear without the wings, without wheels... sometimes just a triangle, square, rectangle...

I must admit I also own the other major traffic software which is also good I must say, but sometimes their ground route editor doesn't work for certain airports. But the airports that do work, plane spotting is so real because planes on approach turn on the landing lights so you can see them at a distance and the models and LODs/textures are good at very very far distance.

Nonetheless I prefer using WED for taxi routes and ALL airports I have tried, X life with have generated full taxi takeoff and full landing and parking with x life. I want to purchase also Follow me Car now, but I really can't take the low polygons so I can't right now.

I don't know much about programming and details of how this beautiful peace of software works, but I am sure the software isn't at fault with this issue. It must be the aircraft library which X life takes it's aircraft from that must be low detail.

PLEASE.... if someone could help me if possible either:
- set the draw distance quality for AI way further
- find a library of high quality AI for Xlife and how to make Xlife use it exclusively...

I finally made the transition from MSFSs after waiting all this time and reading all the negatives of X plane AI. I have been juggling between X life and the other traffic software, but I really like X life and would like to stick to it but seriously anything beyond 200 m are flying squares and triangles with no wings and it's depressing.

Note: This isn't a hardware issue. I run a GTX 980 TI from EVGA factory overclocked which I overclocked some more and a i7 6700K running at 4.8Ghz and 16 GB RAM... PLEASE HELP ME...

I second this, will X-Life present in the future the ability to select a closed library of objs to use as AI aircrafts?

Hi Leporello,

I gather with your comment that this isn't an issue just with me. It's I library selection of objects and some/most are low poly. At least I am reassured that I wasn't doing anything wrong then. Thanks for your post... It's heartbreaking but reassuring for now.

I also hope the maker(s) of this awesome software do as you suggested.

Good day,

To answer the two posts above which should be in the main topic area the AI aircraft will be getting an up-date soon I believe in,
RC 1.1 since, the poly view is a distraction from all the good work that we do to get the hi quality graphics in X-Plane and the plugins that go with it.

Ps, if you do need help you must post a log.txt and a bbox.txt this must be posted on the main X-Life website so we can track all bugs.

Sorry if I violated forum area of posting rules. Sorry for not posting a log.txt as first of all I have no idea what that is and secondly as I stated I did not believe this was a direct problem with "this great program" but probably a library issue and figured may be there was a path or something I needed to set on my end to redirect to something else.

I am a little confused now though, if it hasn't been released yet, what exactly would have been the purpose of me sending a log.txt for this issue if nothing crashed?

thanks so much for the link. That's very good news indeed. I missed that. I guess I will have to be patient. I didn't want to mention it by name in my O.P but since Mr J.A Romanov himself mentioned it from what I saw in the great link you provided, those bluebell planes are what is needed...
