x-life editor gate configuration

Hello!

I try to generate *.xlf files for airports. I do not understand the different modes of gate/stand configuration (taxi-in/taxi-out frwd; taxi-in/taxi-out turn; taxi-in/push-out; push-in/push-out). I know what all this means, but I cannot see any effect by changing the config setting. I am especially interested in the 'taxi-in/taxi-out turn' mode, and in the 'taxi-in/taxi-out frwd' mode (for EDNY for example). Whatever I set, planes will be pushed back. Are there special taxiway configurations necessary to make these modes work?
