Topic: Bad runway choice strategy
Example 1:
A320 from YPAD (Adelaide, Australia) to YMHB (Hobart, Tasmania). YMHB has a single runway 12/30.
Arrival at 22h30 local Hobart time. Wind 12kt from the 100°, low ceiling, rain, night. So, bad conditions. ATC directs me to runway 30 through IPLET5A (not on my course) with tailwind and no ILS. Obviously, runway 12 with MORGO makes much more sence: shorter, ILS, head wind landing.
Why?
Example 2:
Takeoff with an A320 from YBAS (Alice Springs, Australia). Wind 270°/7kt, ATC clears me to runway 17!!!
Too short. Had to violate clearance and take off from 30.
Example 3:
Takeoff with an A320 from YPAD (Adelaide, Australia). Wind 70°/12kt. Clearance for the shortest runway 12. Runway 05 is much better.
