Re: X-Life ver 1.0 (rc1, r1, ++)

Successful flight KBOS-KEWR.
Traffic perfect on both airports.
FPLN had no SID (for RWY33L) and the FM car got lost on the way to RWY33L at KBOS (I guess I need to refine the Taxi Routes even more, although I am a bit at a loss how).
I was given ILS on RWY29 at KEWR again, even though there is no ILS for RWY29. I programmed RWY22L into the FMC and landed perfectly. ATC stayed with me. I didn't request a FM car but selected the prescribed gate on the map and got there, only to find an aircraft parked there.
All in all a great flight.
X-Life rocks!

Re: X-Life ver 1.0 (rc1, r1, ++)

Hi,

I fly a lot across Spain with Vueling Airlines.
Would it be possible to add one or two "official"' Xlife airports ?
For example Madrid and Barcelona ? (LEMD and LEBL)

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi so just trying to understand X Life a little better. Ok so as of now a " Verified airport" is one that is on the airport map page and X life will load it's own traffic to those airports when the program is started. So how does one use an airport that is Not verified? For instance I loaded an airport that I made ATC routes for that checked out ok in WED, the planes appeared but there was no traffic movement. Is X-life very strict how taxi routes are created? Perhaps my pushbacks from gates were not created properly for X- life to use? I'm just not sure. Also when I tried to file a flight plan X life would not allow the un verified airport. Seems as like there are some limitations to X life or it's more about me not knowing more about the program which is probably more to the point. Is there a user manual available? That is something that's really needed here. Any advice from experienced users is welcome!

Unverified airports work just fine if the ATC Taxi Routes are well done!
The Ramp-ATC Route connections and the Route-Runway connections are the most critical. Follow the rules IN DETAIL!
You will get it to work. It took me a long time but KBOS traffic and ATC is now working perfectly (except that the FM car is sometimes doing strange things - I need to refine the routes even more) and it's not on the verified list.

Yes thanks finally figured that out after looking at the video on this forum a couple of times. I have KBWI up and running. Now I have to edit a bunch of airports! Will have to try that KBOS KEWR flight.

Re: X-Life ver 1.0 (rc1, r1, ++)

Does X Life use any type of an air traffic database? Just seems like the large international airports do not have enough traffic. If a plane takes off or lands every minute at a busy airport that would be 60 flights per hour or 1,440 flights per day provided that interval remained constant for 24 hours. 60 x 24 hrs. That number could doubled with airports using multiple runways for DEP and ARR. My sliders are set to max for traffic density and gate activity and runway use set the lowest 2 min. The DEP traffic is reasonable but there is hardly any ARRIVING traffic. I would think a busy airport like KJFK would easily do 1,500 flights per day maybe more. Sure one's computer specs would limit the amount of traffic it could handle. I know things are very much in development here and will take time. Hoping that a realistic Flight schedule database will be made in the future. That would make X life the best!

Hi..yes, remove WT plugin. And yes, XL will crash if you use an airport not in XL. (it does for me too)

That's strange. My XP never crashed when i tried to activate it on airport without ATC routes data. It simply didn't turn on any traffic, but definitely not crashing (same behavior with last beta versions and actual RC 1.01r of XL). It must be some another plugin interfering with XL.

Well, that was with a way earlier beta. I just stopped using airports not in the data base all the way to this latest release (habits hard to break!)..soooo, since everyone is saying it works, I'll start loosening up on that! Good to know..thanks a bunch!

Good day,
Yup, I was shut down for about a month turned on the computer made the up-dates needed started X-Plane and up-dated X-Life then did a flight that worked just as it should. I could see the improvements better since, I was away from the testing for a while.

Way to go team, and yes you should use the airports that are approved and tested for X-Life then you know JAR has made sure they work right, otherwise you might run into issue and must expect them and we will try to help when we can.
Thank-you to everyone that keeps making the X-Life plugin better and it takes the team!

Re: X-Life ver 1.0 (rc1, r1, ++)

Great flight from KBOS to EWR.
Just a few things:
1) I had a plane stuck in front of me which was apparently waiting for me. Did not move for a few minutes so I passed through it.
http://jardesign.org/forum/img/m/1944/t/p1agqtui1560ut6t4i41ttu1lkk3.png

2) The FM car veered off track in the middle of taxiing and stopped so I just continued without it.

Otherwise perfect! This time, I again reported vacating the runway too early but no CTD and no problem when I moved on and reported again!

EXCELLENT!

LGAV: Nice airport, traffic OK, but

Question to JAR: reporting such occurrences, du you need also the log.txt?  Are images useful for you?

Addition: Using XL v.1.1b3.  I made a second test flight LICC/LGAV because of recording failure. this time I looked for a while on the LGAV scenery and traffic. It turned out that taxiways are not marked properly or that aircraft are moving off these ways. Airplanes take-off also do not take place on the runways but beside them on the sand strip. Landings however happen correct almost in the middle of the runways.

Another important observation: take-off of bigger AI airliner seems to show double  aircraft simultaneously !!!

I do not think it is impossible, if you get help from the community, and develop tools for this, it will work.

First step is to have a major system for centers, which you can build and fragment on. It is up to Romanov which level to start on. Let us say he starts from a state of 1 (which in this example is number 1), and the other states may be filled in by users, almost in the same way as airports are updated at the current state:

State 1. One center for whole of the world with a default frequency, stretching from GND to UNLIMITED altitude.
State 2. One center for every country, defined by a polygon, and with a custom lower and upper limit.
State 3. Segments of centers in a country, with custom lower and upper limits.
(State 4. TMA <- approach, departure, radar)
(State 5. CTR <- tower)

NOTE: airspaces may overlap in a a 2D view, but they should not overlap in 3D space (i.e. airspaces may have the same polygon and position, but at different lower and upper limits, not intersecting each other; TWR below TMA, TMA below CENTER, CENTER below another CENTER and so on).

If there is no state 5 airspace at the position of aircraft, use state 4 airspace, if there is no state 4 airspace, use state 3 airspace, and so on until default state 1 airspace. Of course we could simulate uncontrolled airspace, so we need to be able to setup rules if an aircraft is i.e. below the altitude/flightlevel of a state 2, 3, 4 or 5 airspace. This is only possible if any of this airspaces is defined.

State 2 and 3 airspaces (centers in this case, needs to manually made my the community). The state 4 and 5 airspaces (TMA and CTR) can be retrieved from www.openaip.net, and covers most of Europe and North America.

The requirements for everything to work is to:
1. Make the plugin able to read the data from openaip format (which is open  and easy to parse I think). Also the plugin needs to combine this data with user set of frequencies for TMA and CTR:s.
Because it seems openaip does not support frequencies (I guess), X-Life may modify the openaip data for its own best by just adding a slot for frequency, or pair an openaip file with its own frequency file.

2. A tool for the community which can load and save openaip data, where users may
* read TMA, CTR and CENTER airspaces graphically
* edit TMA and CTR airspace frequencies
* edit/create CENTER airspaces as polygons, and set its frequencies and lower and upper limits.
* maybe able to also create TMA and CTR airspaces with polygons if the area is not covered by openaip

As an alternative to option 1, is to make everything out from scratch and X-Life using its own format.

An important note here, some manually action is required here to align the borders of centers between FIR:s, i.e. let us say user A creates a CENTER airspace for Sweden FIR, while user B is using creates a CENTER airspace for Norway, the border between these two FIR:s needs to be aligned with each other.

Like this idea. We can simplify it, and still have a real effect. I think, at first we should go to airliners. This is in Europe and the rest of the world more easy, because these zones are clear. Once, XL is stable, we (Romanov wink ) could work on VFR rules. Here is the work.

CTD on descent to FINAL (KEWR-KBOS). No idea what happened. Everything was fine, except that even though I was given rwy29 for departure, the FM car I ordered through XL was taking me to rwy11 (wrong end). I must check that the ATC Taxi Route names etc are OK (I did make changes recently).
I then asked through FMcar and specified rwy29 and the FMcar took me there no problem.

Hats off to all the folks trying to make a better flying experience for all of us putting so many hours of effort. Things only get better with experimentation. Re: X-Life ver 1.0 (rc1, r1, ++)

Did my first ATC flight with X-life KSFO to my customized KSAN. All was easy to set up and file a flight plan. My question here is can you file both IFR and VFR plans? And does ATC give you IFR/ILS vectors? I have to try entering a plan into the FMC. Didn't do that on this flight. Also is the ATC system aware of the terrain as you depart and approach airports? Today I was cleared to descend to 2,000ft into KSAN to RNWY 27. The ATC gave me discretion to descend so that was more like flying VFR I have charts so ok. The approach into KSAN is surrounded by small mountains, but the visibility was not an issue. Once on the ground I was given info to the gate. Traffic was adequate at both airports, but feel like it could be busier. These are major airports. Had sliders up all the way for density and gate activity. ATC was not strict about speed at all nor was any speed info given on final approach. That's ok most of us know not to exceed 250knts below 10,000 ft, but certainly speed info adds to the realism. If anyone has info about ILS and VFR flight plans using X-life ATC let me know. Overall I was happy with the experience. I'm sure more improvements will come in time!

Good Day,
just up-dated to the latest version and flew a route from KPHX/KSFO great flight all worked well until I went to leave the runway and the Gismo got stuck on having me clear the runway now, I have to change computers to post the log.txt and xbox.txt so please give me a min. or two to post the data. since, the computer is sleeping right now.

This was a very good flight and the flow of the traffic was very good so, I want to keep testing on this version, I just started running the computer after a month sleep.

What can be done is to take for example the division of european air space into 'CENTER' zones. and for each zone to set a specific FL... not more. Sim pilots under XL can then get advices after changing zones to dial the corresponding zones  frequencies.

Good day,
So, I just signed up for the data on the sight that you provided.
now to look into how to implement it into something useful,
I could use some navigational tips on the website on the dat I need to be looking for.

Ps, the system for pulling the Data out is quite difficult even for me and I will need someone to give me some instructions on the data and how to gleem the right data we need.

The data base is quite complex and one wrong move and we will have a mess before we start so it has to be done in a precise order and one country at a time so let make a list country, city, airport,  or if some one else has a better Ideal I have two ears ...
Thank-you,
B.

And the list needs to be of the X-Life Airports and that will make a starting point to the project easer ...
Note#1 if we are going to pull this off it will take the JAR Beta team to do this ...
